Wildflower Meadow Planting
Turn unused ground into something extraordinary.
Wildflower meadows are one of the most beautiful, ecologically valuable, and cost-effective landscapes you can create. Two cuts a year. Hundreds of species supported. Stunning from spring to autumn.
Discuss Your Meadow ProjectWhy wildflower meadows?
The UK has lost 97% of its wildflower meadows since the 1930s. What was once the most common habitat in the British countryside is now one of the rarest. Creating a wildflower meadow isn't just beautiful — it's an act of ecological restoration.
A single square metre of species-rich meadow can support dozens of insect species. Native wildflowers provide nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies, and hoverflies. The deep root systems improve soil health, increase water infiltration, and sequester carbon. And the visual impact — waves of ox-eye daisies, field scabious, knapweed, and wild grasses — is genuinely breathtaking.
For commercial properties, the financial case is compelling. A conventional lawn needs cutting 15–20 times a year. A wildflower meadow needs just two cuts. The savings on grounds maintenance are substantial — and the result looks far more impressive.
Meadow vs. conventional lawn
Conventional Lawn
- ✕15–20 cuts per year
- ✕Requires feeding, watering, scarifying
- ✕Supports almost no wildlife
- ✕High ongoing maintenance costs
- ✕Looks the same all year
Wildflower Meadow
- ✓Just 2 cuts per year
- ✓No feeding, watering, or chemicals needed
- ✓Supports hundreds of species
- ✓Dramatically lower ongoing costs
- ✓Evolving beauty through every season
How we create wildflower meadows
Soil preparation is everything. Most wildflowers prefer nutrient-poor conditions — rich, fertile topsoil actually works against you. We assess your soil and prepare the ground to give wildflowers the competitive advantage they need over aggressive grasses.
Seed selection matters. We choose native species matched to your specific soil type, aspect, and local conditions. Common choices include ox-eye daisy, field scabious, knapweed, bird's-foot trefoil, and yellow rattle — a semi-parasitic plant that suppresses competitive grasses and gives wildflowers room to establish.
Patience is part of the process. The first year won't look like a finished meadow — expect annuals, some bare patches, and a few weeds. By year two, perennials begin to establish. By year three, you'll have a meadow that stops people in their tracks.
Who we create meadows for
Homeowners
Convert part of your lawn into a wildflower meadow and watch it come alive with butterflies, bees, and birdsong. It's one of the most rewarding things you can do with your garden — and it practically looks after itself.
Commercial Properties
Factories, business parks, hospitals, nursing homes, schools — any property with underused grass areas is a candidate. Slash your grounds maintenance budget while creating something genuinely impressive for staff, visitors, and the local community.
